Presidential seats to be left empty in tribute to Covid-19 fatalities
The seats at Mestalla reserved for the Valencia CF and Levante UD presidents, respectively, for this Friday’s derby game between the two sides will be left empty, as a mark of respect for those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Spain. The virus has led to the restart of the 2019/20 season occurring without fans in the stands.
Anil Murthy and Quico Catalán will make the symbolic gesture of vacating their traditional positions for the game. Valencia CF will maintain this custom for all of the remaining fixtures held behind closed doors at Mestalla this season.
The club will invite the president of each visiting side to join the initiative, intended to pay tribute to all of those who will not be able to occupy their regular seats at the stadium, as well as those who unfortunately will never return.
A minute’s silence will be held at all LaLiga grounds this matchday to honour the memory of those who have died during the pandemic.
